BREAKING: 2020 WASSCE begins Aug 17 – FG

The Federal Government on Monday asked schools in the country to reopen for graduating pupils effective August 4. It also announced that this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination would commence on August 17. This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong. In the statement titled, ‘Exit Classes To Reopen August 4th’, the ministry said the agreed dates were part of the resolution reached after a consultative meeting with the education commissioners of the 36 states of the federation and other stakeholders. COVID-19: Lai Mohammed orders NBC to stop BBNaija – Report

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has asked the National Broadcasting Commission to halt the transmission of TV reality show, Big Brother Naija. The minister said the need to stop the reality show, which entered its fifth season on July 20, became imperative due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday, Acting Director-General of the NBC, Armstrong Idachaba, told senior management members of the commission at a meeting that he had been directed by the minister to shut down the show, according to  TheCable . Mohammed reportedly wanted the letter shutting down the show to come from the NBC because of the general opinion that he is bent on sending MultiChoice Ltd, producers of the show, out of Nigeria. A director had told the meeting that the NBC had on July 1 sought an explanation from Multichoice Ltd on a possible violation of COVID-19 protocol with the airing of the show. ASSU - Don’t Reopen Schools For WAEC Yet

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said the union is in support of the decision of the Federal Government to Postpone the conduct of the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination earlier scheduled to commence on August 4 until it is safe to reopen. According to the ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, no reasonable government would take such chances unless parents would be told to sign an undertaking.   Ogunyemi said, “Look, Kenya has said they have closed all their schools till next year (2021); they too have exams to write. Safety first. If it means closing the schools until next year to safeguard the lives of Nigerian children and safeguard the health of all Nigerians, so be it. “ If they need to cancel admission for the year, it is good for them. Nigerian Government Pospones School Resumption, 2020 WASSCE Indefinitely The Federal Government has canceled the resumption of schools for graduating classes. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, while speaking to State House Correspondents the weekly Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.   Adamu also disclosed that 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, has been postponed indefinitely. This, he said was due to the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country. Adamu also explained that Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon until it is safe to do so. According to the minister, he would prefer Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to dangers. Video Clip Below:
